Learn how to use Glotera AI to translate and communicate seamlessly across languages

🧠 Overview

Glotera is a cross-application translation assistant for macOS that allows you to quickly translate and replace the original text in any input field or selected text.It supports multiple triggering methods, suitable for both input and reading scenarios.

🚀 How to Use

🔤 Inline Translation

  • After entering content in any input field, specify the target language (100+), and it will automatically translate and replace the original text.
  • Supports the following triggering methods:
    • Type @language code or #language code (e.g., @en or #ja), then double-click the spacebar to initiate the translation.
    • Pressing the enter key directly after inputting will automatically translate and send (this only works in chat software clients; you can disable this feature in the settings if not desired in Settings -> Favorite Settings -> With Trigger).
    • Use the mouse or Cmd+A to select all input content, then click "Translate to" in the pop-up menu or any other language you wish to translate to.

📄 Selection Translation

  • In non-input areas such as web pages, selecting any text will pop up a translation overlay that quickly displays the corresponding language content.
  • Enhanced Reading Features:
    • Phrase Explanations: Key terms and idioms are automatically explained
    • Cultural Context: Background information is provided for culturally significant content
    • Follow-up Question:
      1. After receiving a translation, click the chat icon on the upper right corner
      2. Type your question about any part of the translation
      3. Get detailed, contextual answers to deepen your understanding
      4. Continue the conversation to explore related topics

📸 Image Translation

  • Instantly translate text within images on your screen with a simple keyboard shortcut.

  • How to Use:

    1. Press Shift+Option+S to activate the screenshot selection mode
    2. Click and drag to select the area containing text you want to translate
    3. Release to capture - AI will automatically detect and translate all text in the image
    4. View the translated text in the popup window
    5. Click the language selection button to change the target language
  • Settings:

    1. Customized Hotkey: You can customize which combination hotkey is used for screenshot translation in Settings -> Favorite Settings -> Screenshot Translation Hotkey

🤖 Translation Copilot for chat

Available for Pro/Max users only

Translation Copilot is Glotera's automatic translation assistant designed for IM chat scenarios. It eliminates the need to manually enter trigger commands like @en or #ja, making cross-language communication effortless.

How to Enable Translation Copilot

  1. Open the WhatsApp client (supported on macOS in English or Chinese).
  2. Move your mouse to the right edge of the screen, and a Glotera sidebar button will appear.
  3. Click the button to open the translation window.
  4. Once the translation window appears, Translation Copilot will start working automatically.

Features

  • Auto-translate incoming messages: Every new message you receive will be automatically translated into your system's default language and displayed in the translation window—no manual action required.
  • Auto-translate outgoing messages: When you send a message, Glotera will automatically detect the recipient's language and translate your message before sending, with no need for trigger commands.
  • Turn off auto-translation: Simply close the translation window to stop automatic translation.

Language Rules & Customization

  • By default, all messages not in your system's default language will be automatically translated into your system language.
  • You can customize which languages are auto-translated in Settings -> Favorite Settings -> Auto Translation Rules.

Note: Translation Copilot currently supports WhatsApp only. More chat apps will be supported in the future.

⚙️ Personalization Settings

  • In Settings, you can customize the triggering commands for any language (e.g., change @zh-tw to @tw).
  • If you do not want the enter key to trigger translation, you can disable this feature in the settings
